제 4장에서는  Read Aloud 에 대한 놀라운 Power에 대하여 몇 가지 실례를 들면서 다시 한번 강조하고 있다.

그 예를 몇 가지만 소개하자면,

호주의 유명아동작가 Colin Thiele 은 홍수지역으로 유명한 Barossa Valley 에서 자랐는데,

홍수시기가 되면, 선생님은 학교에 나온 몇몇 아이들에게 정기수업이 아닌 Read Aloud를

해 주셨는데, 일년 내내 배운 것 보다  그 시기에 Reading and Writing 에 대해 훨씬 많이

배웠다고 한다.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 의 영국작가 Roald Dahl 은 학창시절 기숙사선생님께서 토요일 2시간 정도 Read Aloud해 주시던 기억이 가장 행복한 순간이었으며, 정식 수업시간에서 배울 수 있는 것보다 훨씬 더 많이 Writing에 대해서 배웠다고 한다.

작가자신도 그녀의 첫번째 강의는 Read Aloud로 시작하는데, 제자들은 한결같이 그 수업이 가장 인상에 남는 강의였다고 한다.

Jonas라는 한 남자아이가 심한 잘못을 저질러 벌을 받게 되었는데, ‘’ 네 잘못에 합당한 벌이 무엇이라 생각하니? ’’라는 선생님의 질문에 ‘’선생님이 제게 책을 읽어주지 않는 거요. ‘’ 라고 대답했다고 한다.

자! 선생님들!!!

아무리 강조해도 지나침이 없는 Read Aloud 의 중요성을 다시 한번 마음속에 새기며,

우리 아이들에게 목이 쉬도록 열심히 책 읽어 주자구요.
