이 노래는 1962년 Tom Paxton이 발표한 노래입니다. 노래가 발표된 이후 정말 많은 가수들에 의해 불리워졌죠. 유명한 가수로는 노부영 Puff, the Magic Dragon으로 잘 알려진 피터 야로우가 Peter, Paul and Mary 그룹으로 활동하던 시절에 불렀으며 노부영 Sunshine on My Shoulder로 유명한 존 덴버도 이 노래를 불렀답니다.

주인공 꼬마는 어릴적 아버지가 사 주신 멋진 선물을 처음 받았을 때의 그 느낌을 생생히 기억하고 있어요.
움직일 땐 zip! 멈출 땐 bop! 가만히 있을 땐 whirr!라는 소리가 나는 장난감이 요리 조리로 숨어버려서 꼬마가 숨바꼭질을 하듯 선물을 찾곤 하지요.
어느새 주인공 꼬마도 아버지가 되고 자신의 아이에게 그 신기한 장난감을 선물로 줍니다. 그 아이도 그 선물을 너무나 좋아한다는 스토리입니다.

It first marched left and then marched right, then marched under the chair and when I looked where it had gone it wasn't even there. I started to cry my Daddy laughed he knew just what i'd find. when i turned around my marvellous toy came chugging from behind.

Well The years have gone by too quickly it seems, I have my own little boy. And yesterday I gave to him my marvellous little toy His eyes nearly popped right out of his head and he gave a squeal of glee... Neither one of us knows just what it is but he loves it just like me.
